GE Series Analyzers allow online monitoring of immediate fuel quality

GE coal quality analysers are the fourth generation of online radiometric analysers (also called ash analysers). These analysers allow you to monitor the immediate quality of fuel online, directly on the conveyor belt. The analyzers allow monitoring of actual coal quality online directly on the belt conveyor, can determine the calorific value, ash content and flow rate within specified time interval. Use of the units will improve the excavation efficiency and allow optimization of coal consumption which leads to significant cost reduction. It has been developed using our more than 30 years of practical experience and knowledge in the field of non-contact coal quality monitoring and taking into account the needs of our key customers. Based on these developments, the most efficient dual gamma method of fuel quality measurement has been selected, which can be applied throughout the technology of open pit mines, coal preparation plants and power stations. These analysers can also be used for measuring of oil shale quality online.

The detection system consists of two separate units for measuring ash content and moisture installed on a conveyor belt. The frame can be installed directly on the conveyor or as part of the measurement on the sampler.

Installing the GE4000 in a flammable gas hazardous area (ExI M2) requires a special technical solution. The GE4000.EX is designed for this purpose. There are two possible configurations for the location of the detection and control stage.

The GE4030 has been designed to quickly measure the ash content and calorific value of coal samples taken directly from the plant or laboratory. This enables operational solutions and decisions, significantly contributing to operational efficiency and reducing economic costs.

A manual offline coal quality analyser is used for the immediate determination of fuel quality and is suitable for smaller operations and laboratories.

Examples of online analysis applications

Control of coal extraction in a surface mine

By placing online analysers directly on the mining equipment, it is possible to verify that the quality of the coal is within the expected parameters. At the same time, the extraction requirements of individual machines can be adjusted operationally. By controlling the extraction of individual machines, it is possible to ensure uniform quality of the coal supply and significantly reduce the difficulty of subsequent treatment or homogenisation of the coal.

Management of coal extraction in an underground mine

Online data of the quality of mined coal from belt conveyors transporting coal from individual sections of the mine is used for mine management. Explosive environment design can be placed directly in the mining corridors.

Coal Stockyard Management

Coal with different parameters is accepted at the stockyard's entrance. Based on online measurement, it is possible to decide on its defined storage method. The quality of the stored coal is measured using online analysers on the stockyard machines. When coal is removed from the stockyard, the system is able to determine the final quality of the required supply.

Coal Expeditions

GE Series analysers in dispatch control the quality of coal according to customers' requirements. During the loading period, the current balance is monitored. In case of non-compliance, a correction can be made by replenishing the remaining stock with coal of a different quality.

Sorting

Due to their fast response, GE devices are used to control transfer points for direct coal sorting. In the event of a sudden change in the quality parameters, the high quality of coal is sent directly to the expedition, while the coal out of required quality range is stored separately, e.g., at the stockyard.

Direct control of coal washing

The GE Series online analyser, installed on the hydrocyclone discharge chute or separator, measures the ash content of the wet coal. If the ash content deviates from the required level, the instrument sends a signal to the control unit to dilute or thicken the wash emulsion.

Power Plant Supply Management

For power plant coal feeding control, GE Series analysers are installed on belts in front of the coal storage bunkers, where the fuel's calorific value is monitored.  Based on the measuring, the coal is placed to each bunker in a defined manner. This allows the blend the coal according to its quality before burning in the boiler to prevent a drop in performance, which could cause the boiler shut down.

Radiation safety

The detection stage is designed with an emphasis on maximum safety and reliability. Custom radionuclide emitters are stored in a special lightweight protective container made of tungsten and stainless steel, ensuring its durability even in the event of a fire or other emergency.

In non-working mode, the protective container allows safe transport and storage of radionuclide emitters without the need for their removal and handling. When placing the container in the working position, the measuring beam of radioactive radiation is directed only perpendicular to the conveyor belt, while the free movement of persons around the measuring site is not restricted in any way.
